Urban Arts Project piloted in Fort Bend ISD with Inertia Dance Company and Urgeworks (05-08)

URBAN ARTS Project being piloted in Fort Bend ISD

Inspiring, empowering and uniting students and their community through arts and culture
Fifth grade students at Mission Bend Elementary will have a unique opportunity participate in an Urban Arts after-school program being piloted by Katy ARTreach beginning Tuesday, February 27. The Urban Arts Project focuses on exposing students to the positive energy and passion that can be expressed through the arts. This is an intervention project designed to boost self-esteem and self-confidence in fifth graders. A positive self-image and self-confidence helps children resist the negative influences they may find themselves encountering as they graduate from elementary school and move into larger junior high schools.
ARTreach and it’s subsidiaries Fort Bend ARTreach and Houston ARTreach are parenting with numerous arts groups to support this project and other projects currently running in Katy ISD supporting Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities.

Through the Urban Arts Project, Mission Bend Fifth graders will be given an opportunity to study under professional dancers from the Inertia Dance Company to learn how to use the power of hip-hop and street dance to have a positive impact on their school and community. Mission Bend’s URBAN ARTS Project culminates with a campus performing arts presentation on April 10th at 7:00 p.m.

The community has a stake in supporting programs that provide a safe haven for youth after school, teach positive values and encourage continued education. ARTreach thanks its sponsors of the Urban Arts Project. Houston Community College, Amegy Bank, Tradition Bank for recognizing the impact the arts can have on children at risk. This ARTreach project was also made possible thanks to a grant from the Houston Endowment and matching funds provided by the Mission Bend PTA.

The URBAN ARTS PROJECT ™  is an ARTreach Program.  ARTreach is a 501 c 3 non-profit art and education outreach organization supporting student academic achievement through the arts and Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities.
